Thursday’s Devotion: Taken Hostage!

Romans 5:7 (NLT)  Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good.

Yesterday five Gwinnett firefighters responded to a call for a medical emergency only to be taken hostage by the heavily armed man who called them.  The hostage situation was a long, dramatic affair.  Thankfully all the first responders will be ok although the hostage taker died when the SWAT team took action.  Someone said that it’s sad that the first responders who usually are there to rescue people should have this happen to them. While there is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends (John 15:13) we must really admire our first responders who put their lives on the line not only for friends, or especially good persons but for complete strangers.  Let’s pray for God’s protection upon them and remember to express our appreciation and support whenever we can.

Father God, we pray that you will watch over those who serve us bravely without regard to our qualifications to receive their help. Please bless all first responders and keep them safe.  We ask in Jesus’ name, amen.

Thankfully,
Paige
