1 John 4:16 So we have come to know and to believe the love
that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and
God abides in him.
Every morning during the week as he leaves for work Joe
wakes me up by kissing me goodbye and saying “I love you.” Don’t think I’m a late sleeper; he often
leaves at 5:30 AM. Those three words
mean so much to me. When I get up I turn on the morning news, give the dogs
their dental chew and pour a cup of coffee.
It’s then that I’m confronted daily with three more words, “Shot and
killed.” “Shot and killed” over and over
along with the details of yet another overnight shooting. Why do so many people grow up believing that
a gun is the way to solve differences?
How can we bring the teaching of good core values back into parenting
and our education system? Maybe the question should be how may we as the Church
support parents, especially single parents and how may we show young children
the love and affection and caring they must have before they can develop those
attributes towards others? It is a subject that causes me as a pastor great
distress. My comfort comes from another
three words, “God loves us.” Let’s show
that love to someone else today; even better, if given the opportunity, let’s
show it to a child.
Father God, we pray that children will grow up with the type
of love and care that will prevent them from living lives of crime and
violence. Bless and strengthen parents
and families and those who love and serve them.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Blessings,
Paige
