Monday’s Musings: The Bears, the Stars, the Moose

Psalm 8:3-9  When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers—
the moon and the stars you set in place—
what are mere mortals that you should think about them,
human beings that you should care for them?
Yet you made them only a little lower than God
and crowned them with glory and honor.
You gave them charge of everything you made,
putting all things under their authority—
the flocks and the herds
and all the wild animals,
the birds in the sky, the fish in the sea,
and everything that swims the ocean currents.
O Lord, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth!

Last night in our connect group, Gloria Holder shared Psalm 8 with us.  She started talking about finding God in the beauty of nature.  I shared a camping story, telling of the time when I woke a 3am needing to go to the bathhouse and saw millions of stars in the dark sky.  It’s not something we get to see living in the city.  I woke Joe and brought him out of the tent.  I sang the anthem version of this Psalm to him.  I’m not sure he appreciated it as much as I did but it was a special and memorable moment.  Soon different ones were telling other camping stories, bear encounters, and other encounters with deer, moose and buffalo.  We ended the evening listening to some unique Hawaiian music including a version of Over the Rainbow / It’s a Wonderful World.  It is a wonderful world,  I think getting out of the city and getting into nature where we can see the stars at night and see wildlife is good for the soul.  I hope that we each get a chance to do that in the near future.

O Lord our God, how majestic is your name in all the earth.  You have created a wonderful world and set us in charge of its care.  Help us not to let you down. Thank you for the blessings of the beauty of nature.  Amen.

Have a blessed week,
Paige
