Deuteronomy 31:8 “The
Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor
forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
Joe and I had a really good time at my high school reunion
this past weekend. It was the first time
Joe had been inside my high school although I had seen his many times. Students
gave us a guided tour Saturday morning. They had maps of the school in “our
days” and related that to the current room arrangements. The choral music room was still in the same
place and I reminisced at all the hours I had spent in that room rehearsing
with my fellow singers.
We had about 400 in our Columbus High School graduating
class. It was great to see so many come
back for this reunion. There were 67
women at the ladies’ luncheon and about 200 people at the Friday and Saturday
evening events. Yet I was very
disappointed that my best friend from kindergarten through high school did not
come after all. I had been told she and
her husband were for the first time coming to a reunion. When she didn’t show I felt a little
betrayed; like she had abandoned her classmates who like me wanted to reunite
with her. Still, I enjoyed the laughter
and memories with those who did come and in the end thanked God for the good
time. I do believe some friends are for
a reason and some for only a season.
They change as we mature, change interests and geographic locations. In
our increasingly mobile society we have fewer and fewer life-long friends. I thank God that in Him we do have a
life-long friend. He will never forsake
or abandon us.
We thank you Lord for your faithfulness to us. Help us to remember and reflect your
faithfulness as we make friends with others.
In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
Have a great week!
