Tuesday’s Musings: Another Life Well Lived

Matthew 5:16(NLT)  In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

Yesterday afternoon I met with the family of our long-time and treasured member Joe Lamb. They told me many stories of his life.  From his growing up until his elder days when his body began to fail him, Joe was a man of integrity.  He loved and served family, country and community. He took time for himself, too.  While I’m sad to officiate at his funeral because of our loss I always love to celebrate the lives of those who set a good example for others.  In years past, I would attend funerals and come away feeling that my own life could never match the goodness of that particular life.  I hope that over the years I will grow as a person so that one day hopefully a long time for now, someone will listen to my eulogy and think – that was a life well lived.

Loving God, help us to live our lives so as to be good examples for others. We praise you for those who’ve been examples in our lives.  Give us strength for this day. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen.
