Tuesday’s Musings: Alarmed!

1 Thessalonians 5:18 ESV Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

I received a call last night at 10 PM from someone who lives across the street from the church.  She said she had just arrived home and could hear loud alarms going off in the building.  I called a member who was familiar with the alarm system and he went up there.  Sometimes alarms just go off and need to be reset.  In this case though, carbon monoxide alarms on all levels of the atrium were going off.  They are battery operated and independent of one another. I arrived shortly after the Hapeville fire department units arrived.  Then a man from Atlanta Gas Light came.  All during this we were in phone contact with someone from the charter middle school which we house.
In the end school was cancelled for today to make sure all students would be safe until repairs could be made.  All of this involved numerous people working in the middle of the night for the safety and wellbeing of the property itself, the school children and employees and church employees.  When I left the church at 12:30 AM I left thankful that it wasn’t a fire and especially thankful for all who worked to resolve the problem.
I would like to use today’s scripture to remind us to give thanks to God always but also to remember to give thanks to others.  So thank you to Eileen Randman for your call, to Alan Hallman for being there to check things, to the two HFD units and the Atlanta Gas Light unit that responded and to Carla Olson, Gary Martin, Judi Grubbs and probably several others who did just what needed to be done.  God Bless.

Thank you Lord that a potentially dangerous problem was resolved.  Thank you that this happened when no students were in the school.  I ask your special blessings on all who helped last night. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Have a great day,
Paige
