Tuesday’s Musings: A
Story about The Rest of the Story
John 7:50-51 Nicodemus, who had gone to Jesus earlier and
who was one of their own number, asked, “Does our law condemn a man without
first hearing him to find out what he has been doing?”
Last week’s sermon was about Nicodemus and his visit to
Jesus under cover of night. I told the
congregation that I wanted to go beyond that morning’s scripture and tell the
rest of the story about Nicodemus who was both a Pharisee and a member of the
Sanhedrin, Israel’s Supreme Court.
Between the time I wrote my sermon and Sunday I went to a yard sale. I
always look for good used books at them.
I smiled when I saw right on top of one of the crates of books, Paul
Harvey’s book, “The Rest of the Story.”
Of course I purchased it. Nicodemus was wise. He stepped in when the
Pharisees wanted to arrest Jesus and said, “Let’s hear his story.” I think it is so important for us to remember
when we are judging others that there is usually a “rest of the story” out there
that we may not know and may never know.
Thank you Lord for examples like Nicodemus who teache us to
ask about the rest of the story before drawing conclusions about someone
else. Please help us to be more loving
and accepting of others. In Christ’s name,
Amen
Have
a great day!Paige
