Tuesday’s Devotion: Celebrating Parents

Proverbs 22:6 Train children in the way they should go; when they grow old, they won’t depart from it.

I’ve been watching the Olympics and am seeing much emphasis placed upon the parents of the athletes.  Whole families have made tremendous sacrifices in order for this athlete to train and compete at higher and higher levels.  I enjoyed seeing tapes of some of the current gymnastics team in the gym when they were very young girls.  Think of the hours and hours their parents spent on the road and of the money spent on training, costumes, travel and entry fees.  Most parents wouldn’t have the resources to do this. Yet I think the ordinary can always be inspired by the extraordinary. Wherever we are there is no greater calling for a parent than to devote his or her self to the nurture of a child.
Heavenly God, we ask your special blessings upon parents today.  Give them strength and wisdom as they raise their children.  We also ask for your care and protection of all neglected and abused children. Please bring them to a place of safety and love.  We ask in the name of the one who did not deny children His presence. Amen.

Blessings,
Paige
