Friday's Musings: Rethinking the Cross

Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Galatians 6:14  But as for me, God forbid that I should boast about anything except for the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. The world has been crucified to me through him, and I have been crucified to the world.

Yesterday morning as I put on a red leather wrap bracelet I admired the jeweled infinity symbol clasp.  It made me think of God's infinite, yes never ending love.  I thought that this symbol instead of the cross might be a better sign for Christians to use. But then something or someone reminded me that God's love is not just a touchy feely love. God's infinite love is a love willing to make tremendous sacrifice for us; even the death of his own Son on the cross.  We use the symbol of the cross to help us remember not just the length but also the depth of God's love.

Loving God, help us to never forget the cross even when we long for a symbol that is less remindful of the pain suffered by our Lord Jesus.  Help us to have a good weekend and to share your love with others. Amen.

Happy Friday!
Paige
