Monday’s Musings: On Seeds and Stars

Luke 8:5-8   “A sower went out to sow his seed; and as he sowed, some fell on the path and was trampled on, and the birds of the air ate it up.  Some fell on the rock; and as it grew up, it withered for lack of moisture. Some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew with it and choked it.  Some fell into good soil, and when it grew, it produced a hundredfold.”

Yesterday I preached on this parable of the sower and it provoked a lot of follow-up conversations.  The concept that grabbed me the most was not about all the different types of soil on which most folk focus. What I took away was the fact that the sower (God) didn’t just carefully spread his seed (God’s Word) on the fertile patches of ground. Instead he flung the seed everywhere on all types of soil. No soil (person) no matter how poor was denied the chance to receive the seed.  The Church collectively and individually should take a cue from this.  No one should be denied the right to worship and we should not just share the Gospel with those whom we feel would be the most receptive.  God generously flung the stars across the universe. Let us generously spread his Word in the same way.

Blessings,
Paige
