Friday’s Devotion: Keeping Life Fresh

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:. . . . What gain have the workers from their toil? I have seen the business that God has given to everyone to be busy with. He has made everything suitable for its time; moreover he has put a sense of past and future into their minds, yet they cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end. I know that there is nothing better for them than to be happy and enjoy themselves as long as they live; moreover, it is God’s gift that all should eat and drink and take pleasure in all their toil.  From Ecclesiastes 3

Last night for dinner I boiled some red potatoes with fresh rosemary and spices. Then I found frozen collards, turkey and dressing in our downstairs freezer left from Thanksgiving.  I love to cut up leftover turkey and mix it in the dressing which I did.  As we ate our delicious dinner I decided that I have never eaten any food anywhere that I like the taste of any better than my dressing with turkey in it.  Some people think turkey and dressing is only for Thanksgiving.  I think it’s good any time.  I guess the problem is the size of the bird if you have a small family.  I want to stay out of ruts.  How much more fun life is if we do the unexpected.  Maybe instead of our normal Saturday schedule of grocery stores and household chores we’ll take off and go hiking in the mountains. (Don’t tell Joe I’m thinking about this!) God wants us to enjoy life in every season. Last night’s dinner was enough for two meals so we’ll have turkey and dressing and all the other stuff again tonight and if that bothers you just remember that every day should be a day of thanksgiving for the blessings we have.

Holy God, thank you for all the good things in our lives and for strengthening us as we face the bad things.  Help us to keep life fresh and interesting and to face each new day giving thanks to you.  We ask in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, amen.

Have a blessed weekend. Do something unexpected!
Paige
