Tuesday’s Devotion: That Stubborn Stain

Isaiah 1:18 (NIV) “Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.
Last night I made smashed potatoes with 5 different types: sweet potato, red creamer, Japanese yam, and white and purple fingerlings. The Japanese yam is red on the outside but very white on the inside. Still it left two circular brown stains on the white cutting board I was using.  I tried cleaning it with kitchen cleaner with bleach which usually works very well and then tried rubbing the stains with cut lemons and salt.  Neither removed the stain. As I began my sermon preparation yesterday, I found myself writing about regrets and wishing some things had never happened.  I’m glad that although we can’t undo our actions; we can’t have re-dos, God will remove the stain of our sins in His eyes. I’m going to keep working on that cutting board.

Thank you Lord for your amazing, generous grace. Help us to resist temptations and to stay strong in our faith.  Fill us with your love today and help us feel your presence through the Holy Spirit.  We ask in name of the One who died for our sins. Amen.
