Matthew 16:13-20 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea
Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who
do people say the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the
Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the
prophets.” “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon
Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus
replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not
revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will
build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.
An article in Whole Living magazine featured a couple who started their own business, Green House Design Studio. They search for beautiful old things and then either repurpose them or assemble them in groups for sale. The photos on the company website showed old skeleton keys hung from ribbons and a grouping of mismatched white vases. These old items looked like something one would find in Pottery Barn or Restoration Hardware. These stores sell new things that look like vintage items. I realized the couple really was like many others who buy and sell at flea markets and estate sales. But the way they marketed their finds made them look more expensive and exclusive. Their prices reflected that, too! Maybe we should give some thought to the way we present the gospel to others or invite them to church. Peter knew what to say about Jesus. He became the father of the Church. How sad it is that people resist the Gospel when it's the thing that can make a real difference in their life. While it’s up to others to listen and consider our witness, it is our responsibility to be able to witness effectively. Can we make that a goal for this year?
Have a great day,
Paige
