Monday’s Devotion: The Right Tools for the Job

1 Corinthians 12:4-11 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.  Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.  To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.  All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.

Last week ABC was advertising an upcoming Hallmark Hall of Fame movie “The Makeover.” In it a sloppy, bearded beer truck driver is cleaned up, dressed up and entered into a political campaign.  It was sort of like a “My Fair Gentleman.”  I thought, well I go through that every morning!  (Except for the beard thing!) I have a variety of toners and moisturizers, different size make-up brushes, three sizes of round hair brushes, several shades of foundation and hair products galore.  Still it doesn’t take me that long to get ready because I do have the right tools for the job.  I’m not trying to drive a big nail into a 2x4 with a lightweight picture hanging hammer. God gives us a variety of spiritual gifts to help us with life.  It’s up to us to claim them, develop them and then use them for our benefit and of course for the benefit of others.

Loving God, help us to start each day with gratitude for your gifts and presence in our life.  We give you this week; please help us through it as we seek to live in harmony with you and with others. Bless us with peace, joy and strength.  We ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Have a great week!
Paige
